Chapter 38 - HIBI

The next day, Yuna woke up in her bedroom. The last thing she remembered was talking to her father about the truth. She felt a huge weight was lifted off her shoulders. She assumed that she fell asleep in her father’s office and he must’ve taken her to her bedroom.

Yuna dug through her wardrobe and found a cool outfit for a leisurely summer day. While preparing her outfit, some maids barged into her room. She found it odd that they came into her bedroom because she never liked that the maids would help her dress up. She was used to dressing herself up and getting ready for the day on her own. Although she had the luxury to do so, she didn’t like it.

Yuna asked, “Why are you in my bedroom? I didn’t call for you.” One of the maids lowered her head in apology, “Miss, we’ve been instructed by Madam to help you dress up to go to the palace.” The rest of the maids brought in an excessively luxurious dress that was usually worn by noble ladies. She didn’t seem so happy about the outfit her mother picked out and she groaned, “You want me to wear that? Are you sure my mother asked me to wear that?”

The maid that spoke began breaking out in a cold sweat, “I’m deeply sorry. The Madam insisted that you wear this dress to the palace. She hopes that you will look appropriate when visiting the royal family.” Yuna doubted that her mother would have her wear such a gaudy dress. It didn’t seem appropriate at all. Something seemed suspicious, but she didn’t want to alert the mastermind behind this scheme.

Yuna accepted the help of all the maids without a single protest. The maids did their work by putting make up on her and fixing her hair. The maids then began dressing her up in multiple layers of clothing. She felt suffocated and it was extremely hot inside all the layers of clothing. She was dressed like an eskimo that didn’t know it was 100 degrees outside.

After the maids finished dressing her up, the majority of them began rushing her out the door. Their behavior was very suspicious. It seemed that these maids had an ulterior motive and none of Yuna’s opinions mattered.

When she felt that something was up, she shoved the maids away from her and shouted, “What kind of behavior is this? First off, all of you barged into my room without asking first. Then you try to dress me up in obnoxious clothing and now you’re rushing me out the door without giving me any say in the matter. Don’t you think you’re being a bit too rude? Especially since you should be working for our family.”

The couple of maids that were shoved away, began glaring at her. The maid that first spoke to Yuna complained, “Is that all you have to say after we worked so hard to dress you up? You’re the rude one. We’re just doing our job.” Yuna could tell that none of these maids actually worked for their family. The maids that worked in her family were usually frightened by her father. They would never talk back to Yuna in this way unless they were hired by someone else.

Yuna laughed, “I’m the rude one, now? That’s funny because I just noticed that all of you are trespassing. I don’t recognize any of you. I’m sure that after my father finds out about this, all of you will practically lose your lives.” The maids grew anxious when they were discovered. Failure was not an option for them. If they allowed Yuna to find her father, they would eventually lose their lives. The few maids that were glued to the spot in fear began to move.

They clutched onto Yuna’s arms hastily. The maid spoke with confidence, “It doesn’t matter if you know that we don’t work for your family.

There’s nothing you can do. You probably won’t be able to see your father



anyway. He’s too busy at the moment. You’re stuck listening to whatever we have to say. You have no power without your father. So, you better listen to us, or else.”

Yuna taunted back, “Or else, what?” The maid laughed in her face, “Or else, you’ll lose your life instead. We aren’t scared of you. What’s a tiny little girl going to do to us?” They were right, she couldn’t do anything with them. Her tiny little arms had no strength to get out of the maid’s clutches. The maid on her left brought out a dagger and pressed it on her back. She threatened, “If you do anything silly, you know what’ll happen right?”

Yuna decided to play along with them for the time being. She followed them to the entrance. The guards stopped them and questioned them, “We haven’t heard anything about Lady Yuna leaving the estate. What’s going on?” The maid smiled at the guard while twirling her hair through her fingers, “Lady Yuna wanted to go out for a bit. I’m sure that it’ll be okay, right?”

The guard coldly answered, “No one is permitted inside or outside of the Kim Estate without the General’s approval. That includes Miss Yuna. She isn’t allowed to leave the Estate without her father’s approval.” The maid frowned when she heard his response. She immediately pulled at her hanbok to reveal the top part of her chest. She puckered her lips and began trying to seduce the guard. Yuna burst out in laughter when the guard looked at the maid in disgust.

The maid that held her arm pressed the knife into her back to remind her not to disobey them. The maid then changed her tactic. She straightened her clothes out and replied in a serious tone, “The General has approved of Miss Yuna leaving the residence. He was in a hurry this morning and he didn’t have the chance to inform the guards.”

The guard tried his best to see if the maid was lying. He had no clue if she was telling the truth, but he couldn’t afford to let them through without receiving word from the General himself. He was reluctant in letting them go. He refused, “I still cannot let you through without being notified. I’m sorry Miss Yuna, but you can’t leave the residence.”

The maid began cursing to herself. She glared at the guard and complained, “All the guards in this house are useless! They can’t even do their own jobs correctly. Wait till the General hears of this. All of you will lose your heads for defying him. The young miss will have to miss out on an important event because of you scoundrels!”

The guard scratched his head in worry, “I don’t mean to be disrespectful. Please spare me. I’m just following the policy. I’m sure the General will understand.” The maid shook her head furiously, “You won’t get away with this! Just wait and see, the general will punish you for disrupting the lady’s evening.”

The guard remained stationed at the entrance without budging an inch. Yuna felt proud of these guards. Her father trained them well. They would probably have to wait at the entrance for eternity until her father came back home. All she had to do was wait.

While waiting for hours, the maids grew anxious. The weather was extremely hot and all of them were stuck waiting at the entrance. Yuna felt like she was going to die of a heat stroke with all the layer of clothes suffocating her. She was covered in sweat. Her hair was drenched and stuck to her face. The heavy makeup was dripping down her face. She wondered how she looked.

While trying to wipe off the excessive makeup, one of the maids slapped her hand away from her face. They couldn’t have her removing the makeup when they were so close to leaving the residence. They couldn’t

wait around for the General to get there. They decided it would be best if they snuck Yuna out. The first place they could think of was the place that they originally snuck into. The maid rose from her seated position and walked over to the guard. She said, “Since it’s hot out and the lady cannot wait in this weather, we will just go back inside and wait till the General is home.”

The maids dragged Yuna towards the outer wall of the Kim Residence. None of the guards were stationed on the wall. Yuna felt pity for the stupid maids that didn’t think the plan through properly. They should’ve known that the entrance was blocked off. They wasted all this time waiting around. She felt dizzy from waiting out in the sun.

Yuna followed the maids to the wall. Their plan was to jump the wall with Yuna on their back. She felt her vision go blurry when she climbed onto the maid’s back. Yuna could no longer stand the blurriness and chose to close her eyes. She felt frustrated with her body. If only she had the strength to fight back, she wouldn’t be stuck in this situation. Yuna felt that all her hard work in trying to survive was pointless. She had the knowledge to change the world, but she didn’t have the right body to fight back. What a pity.
