While Eunho was busy training with the soldiers, Yuna rushed to her father’s room in hopes of catching him before he left for work. She was sure that he would be home since it was still early. Just as she turned the corner, she ran into her father. He frowned at her petite figure on the ground after running into him. She was way too clumsy for her own good.
He helped her up and asked, “Shouldn’t you still be in bed? Why are you up so early?” She replied, “I needed to talk to you about something important before you left for work.” He still had a while till he needed to be at work, so he easily agreed, “Then, lets go into my office to chat. I still have a while till I need to be at work.”
Yuna sat on the guest seat across from his desk. She didn’t have much time to waste since he had to be at work. She got straight to the point without beating around the bush, “I’d like to receive training from General Eunho, if that’s okay.” Junho did not expect that she’d ask for his permission to train. He didn’t like the idea one bit.
He didn’t want to see his daughter with bruises and scars on her body. Who would ever want to marry her in the future, if her body was in a terrible state? He was covered in bruises, cuts, and his hands had long grown calluses from long-term sword use.
He frowned, “I don’t think that training would be a great idea. I want you to live like any ordinary noble girl. I don’t want you to live a life of pain and suffering. Learning the sword and being able to fight come with a price. I don’t think that you would be fit to wield a sword. I can accept any request that you have, but not this one.”
Yuna hardly asked for anything and when she did, she asked for something that was impossible. There was no female in history that was proficient with the sword and he did not want to see his daughter to be covered in cuts and bruises. The thought of her with any injury, made him feel sick to his stomach.
He couldn’t let her have any ideas or else she would follow through with her plans. He knew her very well and any idea that sprung up in her tiny little mind would become reality. He knew that she was an idealist and those brilliant ideas of hers all became true. He had seen the miracles that happened whenever Yuna put her mind to it.
It saddened him to see that she wasn’t like any ordinary girl out there. She was a strange girl and her passion for knowledge scared him. Her ideas were out of this world. The reason why it scared him so much, is because her ideas could turn the world upside down in a second. She shook the world with her strange ideas, and it was also a cause for disaster.
Many noble families were against some of her ideas because it could cause a major shift in their positions. They could not let anything get in their way of success. He could already see that some have repositioned themselves against their family. He wouldn’t be surprised to see more kidnappings and attempted assassinations to their family in the near future.
Junho had spent the last couple days tightening the security in their household and finding appropriate measures to counter their enemies in politics. He didn’t bother investigating the palace incident because there was no point. The queen’s men were not willing to reveal their master and it was evident that he would not find any clues in the investigation. He decided that his time would be best used to strengthen his family’s defenses in hopes of surviving.
Yuna thought about why her father would reject and it was expected. She knew that he would refuse. He had the same thought process as General Eunho. She knew that they were reluctant to train her because she was female. She had experienced sexism on multiple occasions in her previous life.
Although that world was developed technologically and there was equality, she had still experienced prejudice. Most people blindly believed that racism and sexism was abolished and that it didn’t exist, but that was far from the truth. She noticed that most of these instances were behind the scenes.
Many have judged her for being the only woman in the workplace. The majority of her coworkers were all men. Over the course of her life, she fought hard to obtain the position that she deserved. She proved to all of them that women were just as smart and talented as men were. Over time, she was able to prove to every last one of them that she was capable of so much and that it didn’t matter what her gender was.
She sat up straight and sternly responded to her father, “It doesn’t matter whether you approve or not. I will prove to you that I can do anything
that any man can do. Even if you disapprove, I’ll find a way.” Her father sighed, “I knew you would say that. I was hoping that you would listen to me this once. I cannot have you covered in bruises and embarrassing our family. Who would ever want to marry you in the future?”
Yuna was greatly disappointed with the way her father thought. Who cared if she didn’t get married? She didn’t want to marry a sore loser that only looked at a woman’s body in the first place. She’d rather spend another lifetime alone than be with a man that judged her for the scars she obtained over the years.
She scowled at her father, “I don’t want to marry such a loser. I don’t care how many bruises and cuts I get, if my future husband cannot accept me for how I am, I do not want to get married, period.” Her father glared back at her, “You have no say in the matter! You must get married in the future. Whether you refuse or not, you must.”
Yuna’s body trembled with fury, “And why is that? Why must I get married? Is it because I’m a female and I won’t continue your legacy? Is that all you see me as?” He tried to explain, “It’s not that you can’t continue my legacy. It’s every girl’s wish to be married to a good husband. I thought that you would be the same.”
Yuna frowned, “Do you think I’m the same as every girl? Have you ever asked for my opinion? I don’t want to be married easily like all those girls out there. I don’t care how mighty and grand my future husband is. I don’t even want to marry someone like that. I’d rather be alone then marrying a stupid man that only sees me as a toy. Don’t you think that I deserve a better future?”
Yuna had a point. He wouldn’t allow such a man to come close to Yuna. He’d rather take care of her for the rest of his life than to have her live the rest of her life with an incompetent son-in-law.
He concluded, “I agree with you. I would not allow any man to treat you horribly. I cannot send you to a man that could harm you. I still do not approve of you training, but I know that you will not listen. So, I have no choice but to negotiate with you.” Yuna’s expression shifted to one with excitement, “So, you’ll let me train then?”
Her father reluctantly nodded, “You can train, but I have conditions. If you don’t follow these conditions, I will make sure that you will not step foot out of your bedroom, do you understand?” Yuna replied, “I understand. So, what are these conditions?”
